2011 Russia & CIS Hotel Investment Conference provides a forum for new projects

The 7th annual Russia & CIS Hotel Investment Conference (RHIC) recently concluded on 19 October 2011 at The Radisson Royal Hotel, Moscow where over 450 hotel industry leaders met to explore new opportunities in the region.   Organisers, Questex and Bench Events, were delighted with the turn out and the numerous deals announced during the conference.

NBB Development signed agreements with West Paces Hotel Group for two new hotels and one SPA centre, all to be opened in Gorky-Gorod in time for the 2014 Olympics. Evgeny Kaplun, General Director for Development, NBB Development explained how the deal is another step towards establishing Sochi as a round-the-year resort: “The Olympics are the best advertising tool to raise awareness of a tourist brand.”

Fairmont Hotels & Resorts also announced the addition of Moscow’s Pekin Hotel to their storied and luxurious hotel collection. The historic property is set to reopen in 2017 and was part of the post-war redevelopment of Moscow. The project will be rebranded Fairmont Pekin Moscow and is being developed by HALS-Development. It will be centrally located, have a selection of dining venues, meeting and function space and Fairmont branded spa and fitness facilities.

“We are fortunate to count some of the most iconic hotels in the world amongst our portfolio and we take our role as custodians of these great properties very seriously” said Chris Cahill, President of Fairmont Hotels and Resorts. “This project not only affords us the opportunity to offer our guests a new, key destination in the largest country in the world, but allows us to partner with HALS Development.”

The final announcement saw Hilton Worldwide confirm four new hotel signings and potential for a further 11 as part of a multi-development agreement. The four new hotel signings add almost 1,000 bedrooms to the pipeline and the multi-site development agreement is expected to bring an additional 1,500 plus bedrooms. The next opening is expected to be the Hilton Garden Inn Krasnoder in Spring 2012, followed by Hampton by Hilton Voronezh in Summer 2012.

Patrick Fitzgibbon, Senior Vice President of Development in Europe and Africa, Hilton Worldwide commented “Russia has been one of our main focus markets for several years and is now leading the European region. By the end of 2012, we expect to have opened at least four more hotels and look forward to welcoming guests to our expanding portfolio.”

Jonathan Worsley, Chairman & Chief Executive Officer of Bench Events, and co-organiser of RHIC announced all three projects in his final remarks and stated “Russia is an extremely exciting country and we are delighted to announce such important deals at the conference.  RHIC is all about providing a forum for education, networking and a platform for deals”.
